The process defined in this paper shows the way customer requestfor services are processed and tracked. The goal of thisdescriptions should be to use Process Value Mapping (PVM) toeliminate non-value-added steps to increase efficiency in theservice request process, increase turnaround time on servicerequests, and to improve tracking of services performed. Byworking through this process a better understanding of Processshould be obtained.
Defining the current process
As clients submit requests for service they are tracked by amanual work order system. The purpose of the work ordertracking system (answers what is thedeliverable) is to track the status of requests, whoit is assigned to, the resolution, and provides reporting ondepartmental activities. This process starts when thecustomer submits a request and ends when the customer is notifiedthat the work has been completed. There are three departmentsin this process; customer, department director, andtechnician. The current process for tracking requests islisted below:
