9. (10) I very much enjoy both science fiction as well asfantasy. A series I’ve enjoyedconsiderably these last few years have been The Laundry FilesWikipedia summarizes theLaundry Files thusly: These books mix the genres of Lovecraftianhorror, spy thriller, sciencefiction, and workplace humour. Last fall, being fully caught up onLaundry Files novels Ijumped into The Dresden Files, which are a series of books that area mashup of hard boileddetective crime and fantasy/magic. These books follow theadventures of Harry Dresden, aprivate investigator in Chicago and the city’s only wizard to putan ad in the yellow pages.A couple of weeks ago, Charles Stross, the author of The LaundryFiles, came out with thenewest book in the series (Book 9: The Labyrinth Index) and, havingread seven DresdenFiles in a row, I bought the Kindle of the Labyrinth Index versionand began reading.Imagine my horror when I discovered that the hero in this novel wasnot Bob Howard, as inthe previous eight books, but Mhari Murphy who was nearly (but notquite) Bob’s nemesis. Please provide me with some advice: I’m around a hundred pages intoThe Labyrinth Indexand I’m not really enjoying myself. I suspect I’d prefer tocontinue the Dresden Files but I’vealready spent the money on Labyrinth Index as well as spending allthis time reading it. Whatshould I do? (Make sure to explain the reasoning behind yourrecommendation).
