Power plants are used to generate electricity for the smooth running of industries and domestic life. Electricity is the basic need for industries. The electricity is obtained from national grid station by industries but many industries have their own thermal power plants as well for meeting the energy needs of the shift and in case of load shedding. Therefore, you are required to design a thermal power plant with the capacity of 10 MW.
Also study the following aspects for designing the power plant.
a. Environmental aspects
b. Suggest appropriate fuel
Functional requirements of thermal power plant include:
1.Boiler / Heat exchanger outlet pressure should be ≥ 6 MPa
2.Temperature of steam entering the turbine should be ˃300℃
3.Steam condenser pressure operates on 20 kPa
4.Isentropic efficiency of steam turbine is 90%
5.Air temperature entering the gas turbine is 20℃
6.Air pressure entering the gas turbine is 101kP
7.Max temperature is gas turbine to be 1300°C
8.You may assume your own fuel and do appropriate calculation
9.Also you may assume your own pressure ratio in gas turbine.
10.Please select any other data you need to address to design but highlight you assumption or selection.
1.Estimation of boiler design
2.Sizing of Condenser
3.Sizing of steam turbine
4.Thermal efficiencies of steam and gas turbine
5.Overall thermal efficacy of system
Comments of limitations and improvements in the proposed design
