X's parents have been pressing X to follow a career as a medicalprofessional. Both parents are successful medical professionals andhave provided the best education for X in the expectation that Xwould successfully grow through the educational system to attendmedical school and pursue a bright career. Even though X hasaspirations to pursue a career in the arts, which would allow X todraw on some remarkable artistic talents X has shown sincechildhood, finally X succumbs to the pressure - the requests forgratitude, the nagging tirades about securing a successful andlucrative profession, the emotional confrontations - and decides tofollow the parents' wishes. Has moral autonomy been violated inthis case? Has X violated X's own autonomy? Is it possible forsomeone to violate one's own autonomy?
