To close this gap, “In 2011, thegovernment, led by Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, restricted thepurchase of dollars. The government tightened these restrictionsbetween 2011 and 2015 — people could buy fewer dollars, could notuse “saving” as a justification, and had to pay higher taxes whenthey used credit and debit cards abroad.”
