1. You are designing a motor boat propeller drive system. The 425 hp motor will turn the propeller at 725 rpm creating 1100 lb of thrust on the aft bearing on the propeller. This will also create a 650 lb radial force on the same bearing. The shaft has a 1.5" diameter and the bearing will be slip fitted. Choose the appropriate medium duty ball bearing and determine how often will you need to replace the bearing if a 97% reliability is required. 2. The shaft of a four-cylinder engine is to be connected to a thickener in a sewage plant that requires 43500 W at 2500 RPM on a 35 mm shaft. The thickener runs continuously 18h/day. Select the appropriate Renolds Spiderflex coupling, using type F tapered bushings.
