Thyroid (Tip: If you use the Parathyroid slide to also see the Thyroid, you can COMBINE these first two sketches into ONE, clearly labeled sketch. These two tissues are intimate neighbors in the body!). A. Draw and clearly label a portion of the thyroid gland. Label/indicate: at least 2 follicles, epithelial cells (follicular cells) that make up a single follicle (specify the TYPE of epithelial cell), colloid, and connective tissue (if seen). B. For one epithelial cell (follicular cell) label the apical membrane region and basal membrane region. c. Look for and label C cells (parafollicular cells). Even if you don't find any- Q1: State the function of C cells- what hormone do they secrete, when do these cells secrete this hormone, and what does this hormone do?) D. Search and label any capillaries that you might find (Hint: look for small circular structures for the cross section of one of these tiny vessels)
