Question 5 (20 marks) (a) A 240-V, three-phase, four-pole, 60-Hz induction motor is running at a slip of 5%. Calculate the following: i. The speed of the magnetic fields. (1 mark) ii. The speed of the rotor. (1 mark) (1 mark) ii. The slip speed of the rotor. iv. The rotor frequency. (2 marks) (b) A 220-V, 60-Hz, six-pole Y-connected induction motor is (15 marks) rated at 75 kW with the equivalent circuit parameter as given below: R1 = 0.0820 X1 =0.19 PAG = 15 kW Pcore=2 kW R2 =0.070 Χ2 =0.18Ω PF&w= 1.5 kW X= 7.20 S =0.04 P misc = 100 W Draw the equivalent circuit of the induction motor and determine the overall machine efficiency.
