Question [1] [45 pts.] A rectangular copper pipe of section 25 mm x 25 mm is used to carry heated water. The external surface of the pipe is subjected to a convective heat transfer coefficient of h = 5 W/m².K. The pipe has an external surface temperature of 82°C and the temperature of the surroundings is at 20°C. T = 20°C ww.sa Al 3 m Tb = 82°C 1 25 mm a) Find the heat loss by convection per meter length Q (W/m) of the pipe. (10 points) b) Determine the heat loss by convection Q (W) if the pipe has a length of 3 m. (5 points) c) Determine the amount of heat transfer Q, in kJ, through the pipe over a period of 1 hour. (5 points) d) We consider that the temperature of heated water is 83°C. Assume that the copper pipe has a thickness of 3 mm and a thermal conductivity of 400 W/m.K. Determine the heat loss by conduction from one side of the rectangular pipe, over the 3 m length. (10 points) e) Deduce the total heat loss, accounting for conduction and convection heat transfer modes. (10 points) f) We assume that the water inside the copper pipe is flowing at a temperature of 20°C and that the temperature of the surroundings is now at 83°C. Without calculation, state the total amount of heat transfer into the pipe. (5 points)
