OIC: Problem # 2 Mr. Charlie and Greta Jones are over 65 and have major health issues. Both are diabetic and have heart problems. They live in Dallas and own a house in Houston. They have clear title to the house. Their son- Christopher- had a run with the law is unemployed. Jones helps their son with the living expenses. House in Houston is worth $85,000 and requires repairs every year. The repair expenses are paid by Mr. Jones. Jones also takes care of their granddaughter who has ADD. Although State of Texas pays most of the expenses of their granddaughter, Jones usually pay around $500 per month for medical expenses of their granddaughter. Over the years from 2006-2013, Jones owe $185,000 to the IRS. Mrs. Greta Jones retired from Federal Government. When she retired in 2013 she was making $160,000. The reason for owing taxes to the IRS is that Jones has helped their relatives in their need. From 2005 to 2013, Jones paid nursing home expenses for their parents. Although Greta's salary from 2006-2013 was in the range of $150,000 not enough taxes were withheld from their payroll. Great Jones also cashed her 401(k) to pay for various expenses; she has $1500 in 401(k) account. Their only income is from Social Security. Greta gets 3300 from social security and Charlie gets 3000 from social security. They rent home in Dallas. They also have credit card balance of $18000 and pay 1000 per month to Credit Card Company. These credit card bills are for medical expenses.
