(a) Explain why 'simple bending theory' may not give sufficiently accurate results when applied to predict stresses in a 'curved beam' problem. [2 marks] (b) A curved beam formed from a symmetrical I - Section of cross-section dimensions shown in Figure Q4, is subjected to two equal and opposite forces P. The radius of the centroidal axis of the curved segment is 125 mm (i) Using 'curved beam theory' determine the radius of the neutral axis in the curved segment.
