You are asked to design a heat pump system for a swimming poolthat is 2 m deep, 25 m long, and 12.5 m wide. Your customer wantsthe heat pump system to be able to raise the water temperature from25 to 30ºC in 12 hours. The average rate of heat loss from thewater to the air at outdoor design conditions is determined to be15 kW, the heat pump must be able to maintain the pool at 30°Cunder these conditions. Heat losses to the ground are expected tobe small and likely to be ignored. The considered heat pump has aCOP bc = 4. What size heat pump compressor (power input in kW)would you recommend to your customer?
