Class AB amplifiers combine Class A and Class B to achieve an amplifier with better efficiency. It is designed to overcome and eliminate the disadvantage of low efficiency in class A amplifiers and distortion in class B amplifiers by utilizing the advantages of both the amplifier classes. In a nutshell, it also can be said as a class AB output stage eliminates the crossover distortion that occurs in a Class B circuit.
