1. Kiva is a non-profit organization that helps people all over the world who are in poverty by offering them loans. Unlike banks, Kiva does not have a high bar to jump over to get these loans, but then again, individual loans aren't very large. Also unlike banks, Kiva's microfinance model allows individuals to contribute as little as 25 US dollars. Those small contributions then get bundled together with other individuals' loans to create a loan large enough to assist borrowers, a loan that is still often less than 1000 US dollars.
