Two parents present to you, a genetic counsellor. The mother hasrecently been diagnosed with retinoblastoma, an autosomal dominantdisorder that affects vision. She subsequently underwent genetictesting and was deemed heterozygous for the Rb gene. The father hasa “normal” phenotype (i.e., he does not have retinoblastoma).
The mother states that they have been having trouble withconception prior to her diagnosis. Zygote intra-Fallopian transfer(i.e., putting a zygote into the Fallopian tube) was suggested asan option after both parents underwent gamete analysis. Propose tworeasons why this technique was preferred over gameteintra-Fallopian transfer (i.e., inserting sperm into the Fallopiantube).
What method would you use to test for pregnancy in thispatient?
