You take a vacation from Ames (about 42o N) and go to Hawaii(about 20o N). You go to look for a familiar set of stars, the BigDipper (part of the constellation Ursa Major), but find that it ismuch lower in the sky (closer to the horizon) than you are used tofrom looking at the sky in the mainland U.S. Why do you think it isin a different location? Shortly after that, you take a businesstrip to Sydney, Australia (about 34o S). Would you expect to seethe Big Dipper there? In both Hawaii and Sidney, would you expectto see stars that you've never seen from the mainland U.S.? Fromwhich place would you see the most different stars compared toAmes?
