Why is there so much concern in the scientific community about using CRISPR technology in germ-line cells, but not the same concern with using CRISPR technology in somatic cells? CRISPR is a new experimental technique and no scientific studies have been conducted yet. CRISPR is not yet approved for human use because it is not known if CRISPR is 100% accurate or if it could make undetected or unwanted editing errrors. Used in germ-line cells, CRISPR gene edits will only be temporary and will have to be done repeatedly throughout life. Used in somatic cells, all CRISPR gene edits will be passed on to all future generations. Used in germ-line cells, any gene edits that are made by CRISPR will be passed on to all future generations.
