This was a scientific study and claim because the researcher observed a natural phenomenon and used technology as an extension of his senses to make replicated, systematic observations. This was not a scientific study or claim because Dr. Jones examined a non-natural (supernatural) phenomenon and based his claim on very little data without considering external factors that could have affected it.
