Review the short description of a scientific experiment below. Select the answer that BEST reflects whether or not this experiment and claim are scientific and reliable. Dr. Thomas Jones (Ph.D. in Biology) conducted a study with a local ghost hunter to test the presence of ghosts in an abandoned house in his neighborhood. Dr. Jones used motion-detection equipment to measure activity in the house every two minutes from 8 pm-8 am on one night. Dr. Thomas found that the motion detectors picked up several movements between 1:00 am-2:00 am that night. He concluded that ghosts were in the house. Liberal Studies Natural Science Lab Objective 2: Use appropriate scientific methods and evidence to evaluate claims or theoretical arguments about the natural world. O This was not a scientific study or claim because the researcher did not observe over multiple days and did not observe the phenomena himself, but relied on technology. This is a scientific study and claim because Dr. Jones has a Ph.D. in biology so we can assume that his ideas were correct and systematic. He also used equipment to make consistent observations. This was a scientific study and claim because the researcher observed a natural phenomenon and used technology as an extension of his senses to make replicated, systematic observations. This was not a scientific study or claim because Dr. Jones examined a non-natural (supernatural) phenomenon and based his claim on very little data without considering external factors that could have affected it.
