Our sense of vision is derived from the function of the rhodopsin GPCR. A visual signal starts when a photon is absorbed by the GPCR. The photon triggers a conformational change in rhodopsin, which triggers the Gtα subunit to dissociate from the Gtβγ subunits. Gtα binds to and activates a phosphodiesterase protein, which converts GTP into cGMP. cGMP binds to sodium and calcium channels, which close and hyperpolarize the cell membrane, leading to the nerve impulse that is interpreted by the brain. Match the players in this pathway with the terms that describe them. Match the players in this pathway with the terms that describe them.
