Which of the following represents a complete scientific argument (including claim, evidence, and reasoning) answering th
question: How are organ systems interconnected to support a living organism? (Arguments derived from Lab 2 Investigation) O The digestive and circulatory systems are connected in a worm to support the function of obtaining nutrients. We saw veins running over the drop in the worm and assumed they would be connected. In the cricket and the earthworm, the circulatory system moves nutrients from the digestive system to the rest of the body. We saw this because, in the worm, the veins were laying on top of the digestive tract, and going from the digestive tract to other parts of the worm. In the cricket, the Malpighian tubes extended from the digestive tract into the open circulatory system. The close association of digestive structures and circulatory structures extending to other parts of the body in both organisms supports our claim that the systems are connected in order to move nutrients to other parts of the body. Moving nutrients through the body using the circulatory system supports the necessary life function of digestion and obtaining nutrients. O In the earthworm, the circulatory and integumentary systems are connected to support the function of obtaining oxygen. We noticed that the circulatory system wrapped about the worm's body and noticed that it touched the skin in many cases, so this structure may support the function of diffusing oxygen between the skin and the circulatory system. The association between these two systems throughout the body supports our claim that the systems are connected in order to move oxygen from the outside of the worm's body to the inside. Moving oxygen from the outside of the skin to the inside and distributing it throughout the body via the circulatory system supports the life function of obtaining oxygen and maintaining homeostasis.
