A couple has a child with Down syndrome because one of theparents has a chromosomal mutation. Neither of the two parents hasDown syndrome (some people with Down syndrome are fertile), andneither of the two parents is heterozygous for DownSyndrome. Explain how it is possible for one of thetwo parents to have a Robertsonian translocation and pass thesyndrome to their child, without being heterozygous.
