1. Write the complete, balanced reaction for the double displacement reaction. 2. Write the net-ionic equation for this double- displacement reaction. 3. What is the formula or name of the solid product? 4. What is the actual yield of the product in grams? 5. What is the expected mass of product (theoretical yield) in grams? 6. What is the percent yield? 7. What is the limiting reagent (name or formula)?
8. What is the reagent in excess (name or formula)?
In this experiment you will investigate limiting reagents. You will be doing a double displacement reaction in which the mass of each reactant will be measured out and given to you. When these two solids are added to water, an insoluble salt forms. The solid will be collected by filtration and dried. Students will determine the theoretical yield and percent yield of the product as well as identify the limiting reagent and the excess reagent. The reaction is: sodium phosphate dodecahydrate (Na3PO4 12H2O) plus barium chloride dihydrate (BaCl₂.2H₂O).
