Calculate the pH of rainwater in equilibrium with atmospheric CO2, knowing that for the present-day atmosphere, Pco2 = 10-3.5 atm, and at 25 degrees Celsius, the Henry's law constant Ku = 10-1.47, Kal = 10- 6.35, K22 = 10-10.33 and Kw = 10-14. Proceed as follow: CO2 Write the 3 equations describing the carbonate cycles that would control the pH of the rain Write the equilibrium constant expressions for each of these equations Rewrite a charge balance equation in terms of [H*] and known quantities such as the equilibrium constants and Pco2 and solve for pH. Don't forget to consider water dissociation in your calculations. You can assume that [CO32-] << [HCO3] in natural water to simplify your equation.
