Effect of Alcohol Consumption on Blood Alcohol Level
Scenario
Three students at a party compare their drinking habits. None of
the students eat while drinking. All three students drive back to
camps after these parties.
Hal, a first-year student who weighs 150 pounds, typically
consumes one six-pack (12-ounce cans of regular beer) every Friday
night between 9 and 10 pm. Beer, he says, does not make him
drunk.
Mary, a senior who weighs 100 pounds, is proud of the fact that
she does not drink beer or “hard” liquor. She drinks wine only,
which she takes with her. She consumes the entire bottle
(approximately 24 ounces) between 9 and 10 pm because it is against
the law to take an open bottle in the car.
George, a senior who weighs 200 pounds, drinks “hard” liquor. He
consumes six drinks, each containing one ounce of 80-proof bourbon,
between 9 and 10 pm.
