A proton and an antiproton fly in different directions and collide. We define a reference system so that the z-axis lies along the flight directions, and the collision occurs at z = 0. Both the proton and the antiproton have a total energy of 2.5 GeV each, but have the opposite direction so that the center of mass is at rest for an observer in the laboratory = e) Calculate the Mandelstam variable s in the laboratory system and in the system where the proton is at rest f) In a collision, several new particles are created, including an electron and a positron. The electron has an impulse of 0.5 GeV/ c and moves along the positive x-axis. The positron has an impulse of 1.0 GeV/ c and moves along the positive y-axis. Calculate the invariant mass of the electron-positron pair. g) Make a figure showing the course of magnitude vs as a function of the impulse of the antiproton near the proton: i) has the same impulse, but the opposite. ii) is at rest. Make the plot for antiproton pulses between 0.1 GeV/ cand 5 GeV/ c.
