Problem #1 In steel construction, a common method to connect a beam to a column is to weld a steel plate to the column and then bolt the beam to the plate is shown in the figure below. This ensures the transfer of the reaction from the beam to the column in the form of shear force through the bolts. If the bolts shown in the figure are Grade A325 bolts with diameter of 0.5 in. and allowable shear strength of 54 ksi, calculate the maximum shear force that can be transferred from the beam to the column through the connection.
