a5 Civil Engineering
Reservoir Engineering assignment. I am posting under civil
engineering because there is no petroleum engineering option on
answers. please provide the solutions with explanations. I will give
thumbs up to those that send me the solutions.
Q/Vertical and horizontal oil wells productivity example
In this assignment, you should evaluate whether a vertical or
horizontal well would better produce oil from an oil reservoir.
Evaluate based on the assumption of a radial-symmetric flow
geometry and respective inflow performance equations, whether a
vertical or a horizontal well would perform better. Following
reservoir, fluid and production well data is available:
- Effective vertical and horizontal permeability kv=kh=20 mD
- Reservoir net-pay thickness h=30 ft
- Outer reservoir radius re=1000 ft
- Static reservoir pressure pe= 2000 psi
- Vertical well flowing pressure pwf=1000 psi
- Wellbore radius rw=0.35 ft
- Horizontal well length L=400 ft
- Reservoir oil viscosity µo=0.8 cP
- Oil formation volume factor Bo=1.15
- Oil production rate qo=500 STB/d
Tasks: a. Calculate the mechanical skin factor S of the vertical
well
b. Calculate the effective wellbore radius of the vertical
well
c. Calculate the additional pressure drop due to the mechanical
skin in the vertical well
d. Calculate the additional pressure drop due to the mechanical
skin in the horizontal well
e. Calculate the productivity indices of the vertical and the
horizontal well
f. Explain from the comparison of the productivity indices
whether the vertical or horizontal well would perform better under
the given conditions ?
Hint: Use the following equations for your calculations: 0.007078khấp Inflow performance of vertical well: 90 HoBo(ints) 0.007078khap Inflow performance of horizontal well: 90 HoBo (Inre+Sh+0.34) + 141.2 qоново Pressure difference of vertical well: Apsv S kh Pressure difference of horizontal well: Apsh 141.2 qoloBo S KL
