Alan and Loretta have been married for 25 years. They have two
children, aged 22 and 16, and live in a large home just west of
Toronto. Last month, they told their children that they were
separating. Because of the high cost of rent, Alan decided to move
into the spare bedroom of the matrimonial home. He made this move
on January 28th, 2022. Alan is very religious and decides to pursue
an annulment through his church. That annulment was granted by
Alan's pastor on June 1, 2022.
Is their marriage now annulled in the eyes of the law?
a.
Yes, because the annulment was granted by someone licensed to grant
marriages
b.
No because Loretta agreed to the annulment under duress
c.
Yes, because both Alan and Loretta signed the annulment
agreement
d.
No because religious annulments are not legally recognized
