QUESTION 2 (25 MARKS] Evaluate the design of a connecting rod which has an 'l' cross-sectional area and the maximum cylinder pressure of 7 N/mm². The piston diameter is taken as 80 mm, the mass of reciprocating parts is 1.25 kg, the stroke of 85 mm, and a compression ratio of 11 to 1. The engine also has a connecting rod length to diameter ratio of 1.3 and 2 for the big-end and small-end respectively and its corresponding bearing pressure of 10 N/mm² and 15 N/mm². The density of the connecting rod material can be taken as 7200 kg/m². The proportion of the I cross-sectional design of the connecting rod is given as B = 4t and H = 3t. Use the constant for the Rankine formula numerator as 320 N/mm² and the denominator as 1/7500. If the safety factor for the connecting rod is proposed as seven, estimate whether the connecting rod is able or fail to perform?
