QUESTION : In a combined gas-steam power the topping cycle is a gas turbine of a pressure ratio of 8. The flow rate of air is 20 kg/s which enters the compressor at 27°C. Turbine inlet temperature is 1300 K. The isentropic efficiency of the compressor is 0.8 and that of the gas turbine is 0.85. The bottoming cycle is a simple ideal Rankine cycle which operates between 7 MPa and 5 kPa. Steam is heated in a heat exchanger to 500°C and the exhaust gases leave the heat exchanger at 177°C. a) Plot the cycle diagram and draw its T-s diagram determining the temperatures at each critical points. b) Determine the ratio of the mass flow rates of the steam and the combustion gases, c) Determine the thermal efficiency and net power output of the cycle.
