Experiment 2: Relative bromination rates of selected aromatic compounds Materials: A selection of aromatic compounds wil
aromatic compound used? If there were any errors in the experiment
based on these results please explain what
errors occurred.
Experiment 2: Relative bromination rates of selected aromatic compounds Materials: A selection of aromatic compounds will be provided from this list: 1 Acetanilide, chlorobenzene, phenol, benzene Method; 1. Label 6 test tubes A,B,C,D,E,F. 2. Place 2 ml of 0.2M solution of each aromatic compound in a labelled tube. 3. Place 2 ml of ethanoic acid in the 5th tube 4. Place about 7 mls of 0.1Mbromine solution in the final tube. 5. Place all tubes in a water bath, set at 35 to 40°C 6. Allow the tubes to stand in the water bath for at 5 minutes 7. Place 1ml of 0.1M bromine solution into each tube and record the time taken to decolourize, 8. What effect, if any, does each substituent have on reaction rate?
