Antibiotics were prescribed, but the patient refused antiretroviral treatment at this time. He was of the opinion that his religion would eventually make antiretroviral medication unnecessary. Another consideration was his narcotic dependency. He was encouraged to continue participation in support groups for people with narcotic addiction and HIV.
