10. Your patient is a 45-year-old who has a spinal cord injury (SCT) at the level of C7 because of a motorcycle accident. The patient has been in an SCI rehabilitation facility for 1 year. Part of their daily care includes performing passive range-of-motion (ROM) exercise. The expected outcome for this intervention is that the patient maintains joint flexibility and avoids developing contractures. Directions: For each nursing intervention, use an X to indicate whether the interventions are predicted to be ef- fective helped to meet expected outcomes), ineffective (did not help to meet expected outcomes), or unrelated (not related to the expected outcomes). Effective Ineffective Unrelated Nursing Intervention Review the provider orders for any contraindications to passive ROM Position the bed in the lowest position possible. Lock the wheels of the bed. Position the patient supine with pillow removed. Apply lotion to the skin when each extremity is exer- cised. Exercise each joint three to five times, Document any pain verbalized or limited ROM of any joint.
