Hello Spieler and classmates,
What resources are needed to enable seniors to
successfully age in place at home?
The types of services provided by this community living program
were transportation, home-delivered meals, a homemaker to come in
and service the home, maintaining cleanliness and hygiene, looking
for fall causing agents, low lighting (1). Also, An Call ambulance
service help elder people in their homes in case they had a medical
emergency, and one of the most important services that were
provided was home modification like wheelchair ramp and bars and
bathrooms (1).
How does an "aging in place" model save costs for
patients, payers, and government programs for seniors?
In order for the program to come up with a cost, they had to
compare the program to other alternative nursing homes and senior
living programs. To spend down and to become eligible for Medicaid
and be in a nursing home you would have to spend in the state of
Louisiana at least $47,482 on an annual basis versus $27,000 for a
living at home program and other programs that could compare EDA
waiver program which was 34,000 (1).
Identify two potential risks of implementing this pilot

Two potential risks of implementing this pilot program across
the state are resources and long waiting lists for the elderly to
implement a living at home program. Older populations face numerous
housing challenges, including those related to affordability,
physical accessibility, and access to medical and other services
inside and outside the home (2). Seniors in rural areas encounter
additional challenges related to their relative isolation from
neighbors, services, and amenities (2).
