You are a nursing student who is attending clinical for the
first time. You have been assigned to a long-term care facility and
your clinical instructor has partnered you with Ms. Anita, a staff
RN at the facility. You are excited to start this new journey in
your life but upon meeting Ms. Anita, you notice she looks less
excited to be working with you. Very soon you realize your presence
is not welcome. No matter how polite you are, Ms. Anita seems to
speak to you in a harsh tone and treats you as though you know
nothing. You start to get nervous and flustered and this makes Ms.
Anita even less patient with you. You try not to take things
personal and remind yourself that everyone has bad days - maybe Ms.
Anita is going through something. You did notice she was running
behind and perhaps you were, in fact, slowing her down.
Accordingly, you try to put on a smile and act like a guest in her
facility. This, however, does not last long. When you return from
your lunch break you are approached by Ms. Anita who appears angry.
She begins to yell at you in the middle of the nursing station and
states that you were supposed to check all her patient's blood
sugar levels and vital signs prior to going to lunch. You
specifically recall her asking you to check the sugar and vitals of
2 patients but you do not recall her asking you to do these tasks
for all her patients...
