Describe the composition and the microstructure for each of the following room temperature alloys: 0.1%, 0.5%, 0.8%, 1.5%, and 3% C. Discuss their mechanical properties (ductility and hardness). 6. A mixture of 1000 g of Fe and 15.22 g of Cis melted and then cooled under equilibrium conditions to 1000°C. What phase(s) exist at that temperature? 7. Assume 1.00 kg of a 0.5% by weight C steel is melted and then cooled very slowly to maintain equilibrium. What phase(s) exist at 600°C? Give the composition(s) and amount(s) of each phase. 8. Explain how the 0.5% by mass C steel, obtained at 600°C under equilibrium conditions, can be hardened by heat treatment. Give the range of temperature.
