1. Are movies from some genres better than others? To
investigate this question a systematic random sample was obtained
of movies from 2012 in four genre categories (Action, Adventure,
Comedy, and Romance) from the Internet Movie Database (imdb.com).
The IMDB ratings were also collected for the movies in the sample.
The data are available in this file.
e) Use Scheffe's method to test the significance of the contrast
comparing the mean of comedy movies to the average of the means of
the Action and Adventure movies. Also calculate by 'hand' the S
value. Summarize the conclusions of this test.
f) Use the Kruskal-Wallis method to test for differences in mean
ratings by genre. Report the P value and compare the results to
those found in problem b. What are the advantages and disadvantages
of using the Kruskal-Wallis method instead of the usual analysis of
variance?
