WHY: You will look into the phenomena of corrosion. Your submitted response must cover the following information: O What is corrosion? → Does corrosion only occur with iron? How does corrosion relate to redox chemistry? O What are the chemical reactions involved in corrosion? Why should we, as a society, care about corrosion? What technological solutions do we have for corrosion? Be sure to address the following four, explaining what they are and how they work to prevent the corrosion: ► coating the metal (with non metal substances) galvanizing the metal sacrificial electrodes impressed current Also answer the following two extension questions as part of the project (you probably won't find these answers directly through research, you will need to think about what you have learned in this unit and during your research): ► If a droplet is let to sit, rust usually forms in a circle around the outside of the droplet, forming a "donut” of rust. Explain. > Give a reason why rusting of cars mostly occurs near wheel wells and door bottoms.
