A patient presents with severe bone pain. She claims to be tired all the time with nausea and constipation. Upon examination, you note that her pulse is 60 beats per minute and her blood pressure is 91/60 mm Hg. You assess the patient's muscle strength. You note she can raise her arms and legs on both sides of her body but if you push on her legs and arms and ask her to lift them she cannot. You assess her deep tendon reflexes. You notice she has reflexive responses but they are weaker than normal. A CT scan is run and a solid mass is found in the right femur and humerus bones. A mammogram also indicates a mass in the inferior portion of her left breast and the superior lateral portion of her right breast. No mass was observed in the kidney. Biopsies were taken from tumors at the sites of the masses. Blood tests were run with the following result: Serum sodium = 140 mEq/L Serum calcium = 12 mg/dL Serum potassium = 4.0 mEq/L Serum glucose = normal Surgical biopsy results from breast tumor CEA antigen levels- high Breast tumor spread beyond the local borders Breast tumor 3.5 cm Axillary lymph nodes had tumor cells present CT scan results Mass on right humerus 1 cm and .5 cm on right femur.

1. What grade would you rate her muscle strength to be? (.5) pt. 2. What grade is her reflexive responses? (.5 pt.) 3. What is causing the muscle weakness and weak reflex responses? (.5 pt.) 4. What kind of electrolyte imbalance is the patient experiencing? (.5 pt.)
5. Name four symptoms mentioned in the case study that the patient has that indicates the electrolyte problem mentioned in your previous answer. (2 pts.) 1) 2) 3) 4) 6. How has the mass in the right humerus caused the electrolyte imbalance? (1 pt.)
