Part 3 Instructions: Please craft a 500-word (minimum) response to the following essay prompt (worth 80 points): In his famous work, Man's Search for Meaning, the psychologist, Viktor Frankl (1905-1997) describes his harrowing experience of imprisonment in a Nazi concentration camp during World War II. He concludes, in the excerpt read for this week, that: "Man can preserve a vestige of spiritual freedom, of independence of mind, even in such terrible conditions of psychic and physical stress." Please explain and analyze what Frankl means by this statement. What examples does Frankl provide illustrating this point? What spiritually sustains Frankl during his imprisonment? What do you think Frankl means when he says that there "must be meaning in suffering"? Finally, what do you make of this passage? Do you think people can be spiritually/psychologically free under all circumstances? Can you draw any parallels between what Frankl teaches and your own experiences?
