Making a Roller Coaster CONGRATS!!! Canada's Wonderland is hiring YOU to design the next roller coaster in the park! Like the Yukon Striker, this roller coaster will also require a subterranean (underground) section. Goal: You need to make a roller coaster design to pitch to the Cedar Fair parks. You need to use ALL the functions learned from this course. You need to complete the submission form at the end of the assignment to submit to the board. At least one of your functions needs to be subterranean (below the x-axis) and be sure to briefly explain how it is subterraneous (in the context of real-life). The points where the functions connect must be integers (i.e. (x,y), where x and y are both integers). Instructions: 1. Create a name for the roller coaster. 2. Use Desmos to graph each section of your roller coaster and write down the equations, where h(t) is the height in metres and t is the time in seconds. SHOW ALL YOUR WORK. The more functions you use, the better your mark. (see checkbric below for specific # of graphs) You need to show how you used the intercepts and transformations where needed to create the graphs. You also need to show how you decided which functions you used (ie. is it logical?) when you were making your roller coaster on Desmos. Steps when creating your roller coaster on Desmos: 1. Go to desmos.com/calculator. 2. You are now ready to insert a function. Hit the button in the top left corner and select "f(x) expression".
3. Before you submit your project, be sure to rename it, by clicking on the link "untitled graph" at the top. Please include your name in the title. 4. When you are ready to submit, click on the "share graph" button on the top right side of the screen. Highlight and copy the link provided then email this link to your teacher (send the link in Dropbox as well). Christine Share Graph Share your graph Share this link: https://www.desmos.com/calculator/bxxvb8slux Email Embed Image Nice Graph! X Want us to consider it for staff picks? no, thanks yes, please!
Putting the Fun in Functions! A roller coaster design PT Name of your Roller coaster and link to Desmos: Total time it takes for the ride:_ Height of Entrance Platform: Height of Exit Platform: Minimum Safety Standards: The track of the roller coaster must be continuous (no gaps) PASSED FAILED
Show Your Work - You must complete the chart given for each function you use Base Function: Starting point: End Point: Range: Domain: List of transformations and parameters: Final transformed function: How this function was made to purposefully connect to the preceding and following functions:
Contextual explanation/justification of transformations:
