The class has collected some wind energy data using a hand-held meteorological instrument (Kestrel) measure wind speeds at one particular location for 20 minutes. The locations of measurements are shown c the map on page 4. For 20 minutes, they measured wind speed at location #1 with the Kestrel and entered the values in the tabl overleaf. Using the data in the table calculate: the average wind speed for the entire time (enter the value in the table), and also calculate the standard deviation of wind speed (we will have gone over this in lecture). As you have come to learn in the lectures, the standard deviation tells us something about how turbulent the wind is at any location (its turbulent intensity). In general, sites that are too turbulent are not very good for wind turbines (they provide poor quality wind).
