Some bacteria excrete siderophores that help with uptake of iron
from the surrounding environment. A "cheater" genotype does not
produce siderophores, but takes advantage of their production by
individuals with the "cooperative " genotype. Experiments with
these bacteria have shown that a population in the laboratory can
become fixed for the cooperator genotype under which
conditions?
High relatedness of individuals and weak competition.
High relatedness of individuals and strong competition.
Low relatedness of individuals and strong competition
Low relatedness of individuals and weak competition.
When there is no iron in the environment.
