(b) Mathematical program can be broadly classified into two categories. Name the two categories and differentiate the two programs. [4 marks] (i) Three chemical engineering students are working in the same group for a design project. The design project involves three tasks: literature search, simulation, and report writing. Since the three students did not get along well, they decided that each person will do one of the three assigned tasks without any cooperation with the other two. In an attempt to identify the best way to distribute tasks among the three students, each one of them estimates the number of hours that he/she requires to finish each task in Table 3. Table 3: Estimated hours required by each student for each task. Task / Student A B C Literature search 20 25 30 Simulation 10 10 10 Report writing 15 20 20 (ii) Set up a programming model that will be written in LINGO to look for the optimum scenario that minimises the total person-hours involved in the project. [9 marks] Note: You do not need to solve the model / equation. (iii) There may be alternative optimum solution exists in the same model. Formulate a constraint for the model you set up in (i) that you may use to check for alternative optimum solution. [1 marks] Note 1: You do not need to solve the model / equation. Note 2: Please make assumption on the result in (i) that may be needed to formulate the constraint.
