Question 6 100 kg/h of steam enters a turbine at 300°C and 250 kPa. The steam leaves the turbine with 50°C of super heat, at a pressure of 101.325 kPa. a) If the turbine operates under steady-state conditions and adiabatically, determine the maximum shaft work that can be extracted by the turbine b) Applied engineering question: why might it be important to keep the exit stream temperature above the saturation point? Why not try to cool the stream below the boiling point to try to extract even more energy (given the high latent heat of steam)? Discuss this point with other students on your table. (Think about how different types of saturation were important in Module 4)
