A mixture of 60 mole% methanol with water is to be distilled to give a top product of 90 mol% methanol and a bottom product of 94 mole % water. The distillation column, operating at 1 atm, consists of a partial reboiler, a bubble-cap column, and a total condenser. Equilibrium data is given in the figure below. The feed is saturated liquid and a reflux ratio of 2 is used. Using McCabe-Thiele method, determine: (a) the minimum number of stages. (b) the number of stages in the rectifying section. (c) the number of stages in the stripping section. (d) feed plate location.
