Question 4 (20 marks) A reinforced concrete beam of a storage building with the cross section as shown in Figure 4 is constructed from Grade 32 concrete (fe' = 32 MPa). The beam is simply supported with a span of 4 m. The beam is subjected to following uniformly distributed load: Dead load, G 13 kN/m (including self-weight), Live load, Q = 4 kN/m, The beam is reinforced with 3N20 bars. Obtain required material properties from AS3600. Determine: Depth of neutral axis, d, in mm; (a) (5 marks) (b) Short and long-term service load moment, Ms,s and Ms,L in kNm; (5 marks) (C) Effective moment of inertia, for in mm¹; (5 marks) (d) Total deflection at the centre of the beam, 4Total in mm.
