Question 2 (20 marks) A circular stepped shaft ABCD is fixed at end A and subjected to torques at B and D as shown in Figure 2. The shaft has a shear modulus of 80 GPa. Given that D₁ = 80 mm, D₂ = 50 mm, 1₁ = 60 mm, 1₂ = 50 mm, l3 = 50 mm, TB = 500 Nm and Tp = 300 Nm, answer the following questions. a) Sketch the torque distribution along the length of the shaft. (2 Marks) b) Calculate the angle of twist at the end D. (8 Marks) c) Calculate the maximum shear stress in the shaft.
