Objective Plan for a physical security design Background Physical security protects the physical resources as well as personnel of an organization. Physical security design starts with preparing a list of assets and determination of vulnerabilities. The designer needs to understand the requirements of the organization in terms of convenience, business activities, and safety and security of its personnel. Procedure 1. Consider your workplace or house as a test case for the physical security design. 2. Prepare a list of assets in the form of a table with columns for "Serial Number", "Description", "Approximate Value" and "Importance Level". (You may design a scale for importance, like, very important, important, not that important, and not important. 3. Prepare another list for regular activities of the facility. You can include the following items: a. How many people on average do access the facility? b. How many of the above do belong to the facility? How many are visitors? d. What is the typical traffic volume in the morning, at noon, in the event and during weekends? 4. Prepare a rough sketch of the architecture of the facility. a. How many entrance doors are there to enter the facility? b. How many windows are there? c. How many rooms are there? d. Is there a special room for the owner, or the top management, or security administrator, or server?
