In Canada employers are entitled to follow Employment standard
act if they are not following this act we can sue them by
complaining to authorities.This act covers wide topic and there is
minimum wage which is fixed by onatrio goverment and employers have
to cut three types of deductions from wages.In this article, there
is a restaurant owner in toronto which had to give wages and other
pay to their which is ordered by goverment but he failed in
doing so and he sent for 90 days imprisonment.Ontario provinvce
offers overtime pay to their employers which means that if you work
more than 44 hours in week you are eligible for overtime and in
this case it happened that Regal Chain did not give overtime pay
and other compensation such as vacation pay to more than 60
employees.The Ontario court ordered more than $457,000 to pay their
employees.Moreover, company was not in position to pay wages and
sentenced to jail. However,this restaurant closed in 2013 and
employees left with no jobs and termination pay but in this act we
have provision that offers eating periods pay in this
employer offer 30 mintue, unpaid break after 5 hours and employee
who is working from 11 hours need two 30 minutes break.
I personally like this act because it increase my knowlegde on
employment standard act and I become aware of vacation pay that
part time workers are also entitled for this pay.
